What Does the Name Getting Out by Going In (GOGI) Mean?
Getting Out by Going In (GOGI) means getting out of our own prison by going within and becoming our own solution.
What Does GOGI Do?
As a non-profit organization, we share the GOGI Life Tools with anyone seeking a simple way to make more positive decisions in their lives. For twenty years we have provided the GOGI Life Tools to incarcerated individuals, as they are oftentimes highly motivated to make lasting changes. In addition to FREE information, we invite the sponsorship of our CORRESPONDENCE COURSES which permit focused studies of the GOGI Life Tools.

GOGI’s Program Options
FREE GROUP MEETING FORMAT: PowerUp GOGI Community Support Meetings are free to any institution or organization. Any group may hold PowerUp GOGI Meetings which are an “open-source” and free programming option. The PDF is free and can be printed by anyone in any quantity. PowerUp GOGI Meetings do not generate a credit from GOGI, but are ideal for the hosting institution or facility to use for attendance-based credits. In California State Prisons, there are “RAC” credits for attendance at these meetings. Check to see if your institution will issue attendance credits or other incentives for attending PowerUp GOGI Meetings. You may suggest to your program office or other admin (in CA it is the CRM) that PowerUp GOGI Meetings are beneficial to you and your peers.
NOTE: GOGI does not issue credit for attending POWERUP! MEETINGS. PowerUp Meetings are ideal for attendance-based credits issued by the hosting institution or organization.
NOTE#2: Official GOGI Credits – GOGI issues certificates of completion for our softbound courses which are grant-funded or purchased by family and friends. We also have two free courses. Our volunteers are willing to process and provide official GOGI credit for the MY LIFE STORY and POWER UP YOUR LIFE book reports submitted to GOGI, PO Box 88969, LA, CA 90009.
Volunteer Supported GOGI – Our volunteers are committed to supporting as much GOGI as can possibly be offered to you for free. They volunteer their time to process the MY LIFE STORY reports and POWER UP YOUR LIFE book report courses. These two courses are free to you, compliments of donors and volunteers. When you complete these courses, you can ask GOGI for an OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT. Know that a copy of your completion for IN-CELL study is submitted to your institution. It is our understanding that institutions scan GOGI certificates into C-files. Some, however, do not. Please check with your administration to better understand what they are willing to document regarding your efforts.
Prison Purchases – Many institutions use internal budgets (each prison has a budget for program supplies) to provide GOGI course workbooks to their populations. In these cases, GOGI finds donors to match funds so more people can participate. We hope more program offices realize the value of GOGI’s in-cell courses and tap into this often-unused budget to provide GOGI workbooks to individuals on their waiting list. You are invited to encourage your administration to consider GOGI workbooks, as they may not know this is an option.
Family and Friends – Anyone can sponsor/purchase GOGI courses from our website: www.gettingoutbygoingin.org. Victim Impact, Criminal Thinking, Insight Development, our Substance Abuse course, and Anger Management are available directly on our website “shop” tab. In many cases, students have also withdrawn funds from their accounts and have purchased courses. Donors help keep the cost of these courses low, even with rising printing and shipping rates. Completion certificates and documentation are submitted to the institution whenever possible, as well as provided to the student.
GOGI Grant Funding – When GOGI earns grant funding, we are able to send our correspondence courses to our students at no cost. This funding is limited and usually very specifically directed by the granting organization. courses.
How can you help? STAMPS! And, please know we survive on donations, even the $5.00 ones! There are more students than materials available. Every dollar permits us to mail 2 letters! We need sponsors/donors for the courses – and stamps! And, “thank you, donor” letters go a long way! In short, we need your help!
About the GOGI Team of Volunteers
Getting Out by Going In (GOGI) is a non-profit that models the value of volunteerism. As such, there are no paid staff members at GOGI. Those who are paid, receive a small stipend for their contribution to advancing the global use of the GOGI Life Tools. Coach Taylor, a volunteer for GOGI since its inception, explains.
“How can I encourage the student of the GOGI Life Tools to live a life of service if I am taking a paycheck? It didn’t make sense to me, and it did not seem honest in the way that GOGI has always been honest. This choice, to remain 100 percent volunteer staffed, was not an easy one. It certainly hampered our growth in many ways, but no one will ever be able to challenge the sincerity of the GOGI mission and vision.”
The GOGI Community Outreach Advisory Committee

Coach Johnny, GRep Ernie, and Coach Ernesto were recently appointed to GOGI’s Community Outreach Advisory Committee, which is overseen by Board Member GRep Ozzie (Osvaldo) Alvarez.
Certified GOGI Community Coaches
The GOGI organization benefits from the contributions of individuals who have earned the rare distinction as GOGI Certified Community Coach. The individuals listed are in active status as GOGI Community Coach, and contribute regularly to the organizations programming needs.
___________
Coach Taylor
The GOGI organization is led by Coach Taylor, who is a volunteer permitting the voice of the unheard to create their own solutions. Coach Taylor began volunteering inside United States Prisons and Jails in 2002 as a psychology student. She has maintained her position as founding volunteer for GOGI, encouraging others to experience the internal freedom resulting from sincere volunteer effort. She has authored the GOGI books and courses, collaborating with students who contribute to the content through handwritten letters delivered to GOGI’s mail room.
